Base App Smart Wallet Cannot See Bitcoin or Solana? Check Your Wallet Type

Bitcoin and Solana availability in the Base app depends on wallet type. Smart wallets are EVM-only; CDP and mnemonic wallets can support BTC and SOL.

Direct answer: If Bitcoin or Solana is missing in the Base app, check which wallet type you are using before assuming funds are gone. Coinbase's current support documentation says passkey smart wallets support EVM-compatible networks only, while email/social-login (CDP) wallets and mnemonic wallets can support EVM networks, Solana and Bitcoin.

Why BTC or SOL may not appear

The Base app can contain different wallet architectures. A passkey smart wallet is EVM-only and therefore does not have a native Bitcoin address and does not support Solana. A CDP wallet or mnemonic wallet can support Bitcoin and Solana in addition to EVM chains. That difference can make the same app appear to support an asset in one account but not another.

Check your wallet type first

Open the Base app and identify the active wallet/account. If it is a smart wallet created with a passkey, do not send native BTC or SOL to an EVM address. If it is an email/social-login or mnemonic wallet, use the app's supported receive flow to obtain the network-specific address.

Bitcoin addresses are different

Coinbase specifically notes that BTC uses a different address from your primary Ethereum/EVM address. Treat Bitcoin, Solana and EVM receive addresses as separate destinations. Copy the address from the receive screen for the exact asset and network instead of reusing an address from another chain.

If an asset appears missing

  1. Find the transaction hash from the sending wallet or exchange.
  2. Verify the destination address and network on the appropriate block explorer.
  3. Compare that address with the active wallet type in Base.
  4. Check whether you are in Base mode or another account/wallet context.
  5. If the asset is on an unsupported network, follow Coinbase's official unsupported-assets guidance rather than sending another transaction.

A missing portfolio entry is not proof of loss. On-chain ownership is determined by the address and keys, while an app may hide networks it does not support.

Security warning

Never give a recovery phrase to anyone offering to “restore” a missing asset. Coinbase's documentation says a recovery phrase can be used with compatible wallets, but it should only be entered into software you independently trust and intentionally choose.

FAQ

Does a Base passkey smart wallet support native Bitcoin?

No. Coinbase currently documents smart wallets as EVM-compatible only.

Can a mnemonic wallet support Solana?

Yes, Coinbase lists mnemonic and CDP wallets as supporting Solana.

Is a missing balance necessarily lost?

No. Verify the on-chain address and network before drawing that conclusion.
